Comparing the iOS with Android, the former is unchallenged in terms of simplicity and smoothness. On the other hand, the Android re-defines personalization. That aside, what if the latest Android 4.4 KitKat is put in a match against the latest Windows 8.1?
In terms of voice control, the Microsoft mobile OS has Cortana is by far the best AI yet. It is smart and also very human-like. Cortana is by far more superior to any voice control entity from Google. The advantage with Google Now is that it is linked with Google Maps and Google Search. Cortana is stuck with Bing.
The Windows 8.1 is definitely a major jump for Microsoft. It actually encourages more personalization. In fact, the lock screen can also be customized. Of course the Android is still better in this segment but the direction Microsoft is taking is a positive one. As for the layout design, there is no arguing that the tiles in Windows Mobile OS are spectacular.
At the moment, the Android KitKat 4.4 is pushing for more simplicity to the already complicated layout. Then again, there are no restrictions to what users can do with the KitKat. However, it does lack a companion like Cortana. With many users always spent a lot of time with their phones, it can get lonely and that is where Cortana succeeds. The future is getting brighter for Microsoft.
