The Android 4.4.4 KitKat is finally out and it is the final Android 4.x OS to be created. The firmware with the build number, KTU84P, is launched OTA for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012), Wi-Fi only Nexus 7 (2013) and the Nexus 10.
The size of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat is only 3MB. After all, it is only a simple patch for the vulnerability spotted with SSL. It appears that there are many security lapses with OpenSSL, event logging, WebView and Chromium projects. The Andorid 4.4.4 KitKat will ensure that they are fixed.
Soon, Android-operated devices from other manufacturers will also get a piece of this new KitKat. The update is expected to be distributed quickly after the Nexus has completed its update.
Following the Android 4.4.4 KitKat is the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop. It was just unveiled as the Android L on Google I/O conference last week and the OS will be out before the year ends.
