We are all expecting Mazda to release a new Mazda RX-9 but that will only happen once Mazda gets the rotary engine sorted out. Luckily, they are working on it which means we might see an RX-9 in the future.
When Mazda was asked about the RX-Vision Concept, Mazda replied saying that the vehicle will not be heading into production unless there is a rotary engine. Russell Wager, also added that “they” are working on it.
The Mazda RX-8 came powered by a 1.3 liter R2 engine that could deliver about 212hp and 232hp and return about 16mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway.
It is also believed that Mazda is looking to enter the premium market which means the future Mazda RX-9 could come with an even bigger price tag if it arrives. Mazda saying that they are working on the engine does not mean that the RX-9 will be coming for sure so take it with a pinch of salt.
