It does feel like we are always the one getting the short end of the stick. Diesel powered models don’t usually make their way over to us and automakers usually keep their wagons out of their reach. Now, new reports are saying that the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime with the solar roof panel might not make it to the US as well.
Panasonic has just announced that they now have a new solar roof panel that will be offered as an optional feature on the Toyota Prius Prime. The panel is an upgraded version of the previous 50-watt roof panel.
According to Toyota, the solar panel will help increase the range of the Prius Prime by 3.7 miles only so that means you still can’t use this to charge up your Prius and skip the plug.
However, they have no figured out a way to make the roof pass the rollover test here in the US and until they get that issue solved, we will not be seeing the Solar Panel here in the US.
