You would think that since the Ranger has been out of the US market for some time, it will be coming in as the underdog but based on what the Ranger has to offer right now, it does not feel like they are the underdog at all especially after what Ford plans to give it.
The current Ford Ranger base model runs on a 2.2-liter turbo engine. The is also a 3.2-liter turbo engine that will be offering about 147kW and 470Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a six-speed auto transmission.
The Ranger will come fitted with standard features like cruise control, leather steering, reversing camera, climate control, bucket front seat and more. It was also rated five stars for its safety by ANCAP. That is before the extensive upgrade that Ford will be giving the Ranger when it arrives in the US.
Compare that to the Tacoma we have here. The Tacoma comes running on a 2.7 liter four cylinder engine that will come mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed auto transmission. There is also the 3.5-liter V6 engine that will be mated to a six-speed auto or manual transmission.
Do you think Toyota should be worried?
