The latest Beijing Auto Show became a platform for many concept cars coming in the near future. However, the attention is mostly spent on DongFeng and the upcoming Spirior facelift.
The Spirior is basically a rebadged Honda Accord for the Chinese market and the facelift could be Honda’s way of teasing the fans on the future of their mid-size sedan.
When viewing the concept, one can no longer call the Accord an old man’s car. The Spirior facelift concept carries a totally different look that injects some trendy styles to it. On the other hand, many of its design features were recycled from the upcoming Honda Civic Type R. It is as if both DongFeng and Honda fused the Civic and the Accord together to create the facelift.
From another angle, the Spirior facelift looks identical to the Acura TLX. This cannot be blamed as the team of designers are in fact, those that created the TLX.
Honda revealed that the new design will come, hand-in-hand, with dynamic performance, technologies and safety features. Under the hood, the concept is powered by Honda’s 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder gasoline mill paired to an 8-speed DCT transmission.
All in all, the concept is something that Honda fans would love to see materialize. Let’s just hope for the design to be the benchmark for the Honda Accords worldwide.
