In a matter of weeks from now, Volvo will be launching the all-new XC-90. The SUV is already described as something revolutionary from the Swedish carmaker as it look to offer a nice design, powerful performance, greater fuel efficiency and some new technologies.
In detail, the XC-90 has a chrome trimmed grille that is flanked by a pair of T-shaped LED daytime running lights. Also, the SUV has a bolder stance thanks to a bonnet that cuts back into the vehicle’s shoulder line. This particular feature stretches all the way back to the tapered rear lights.
Inside the cabin, the XC-90 looks like a 5-star hotel room. Everything inside is bright and neat. This is partly owed to a new tablet-like touchscreen planted at the dashboard that replaces the many buttons on previous Volvo models. Also, Volvo utilized premium materials like wood and leather that gives it that top-class feel.
The special thing about the XC-90 is that it runs on the new Scalable Product Architecture which is lighter, stronger and safer than previous architectures. The SPA platform also frees up more space. Volvo claims that the third-row seats can accommodate and adult passenger well thanks to its 5ft 6in height.
The SUV is offered with a wide variety of petrol and diesel engine options. Despite that fact, all the motors will have 2L capacity with four-cylinders, while being part of the Drive-E family.
The first is the 316hp T6 petrol which is both turbo and super charged. Then, there is the 225hp D5 diesel which is twin-turbocharged. Both motors are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The third powertrain is a 390hp hybrid that pairs the petrol mill with an electric motor. This ensures carbon emissions at an all-new low of 60g/km.
Price-wise, the entry level XC-90 retails at £68,785. Of course, those are the only figures we have right now as we await for Volvo to reveal the full price list. Nevertheless, the £68,785 should give us a rough idea of the sort of pricing that will come on the XC-90.
