2015 Mazda MX-5 Test Drive: Same Old Fun Driving Experience

Following the success of the 3, 6, CX-5 and many more, Mazda aims to take thing up a notch by offering a brand new MX-5. The Miata badge has survived the test of time and is still the record holder for the bestselling roadster in history and it is about to get updated with a new model.

Due in 2015, this upcoming MX-5 is already in its final stages of production and will soon be offered in three different editions. They are Sport, Club and Grand Touring. Regardless of the type, the MX-5 will still sport that traditional manual soft top that can be folded within 12 seconds.

The best part about the next-gen MX-5 is the fact that it comes with the latest technologies. The car is powered by the 2L 4-cylinder engine that is paired to a 6-speed transmission, which offers 158hp and 140ft-lbs of torque.

We managed to get a short test-drive of the upcoming MX-5 and the experience is worth every second. For starters, the sound produced by the vehicle is exactly like how it was back in 1990. Also, the thrill it offers when taking on the bends and corners felt like playing a video game.

The interior have been developed with some common features of today like heated trimmed-leather seats, keyless entry and Bluetooth hands-free. Furthermore, the soft roof is also carefully folded to ensure that the 5.3 cubic feet of cargo space remains undisturbed.

The icing on the cake is with Mazda’s SkyActiv technology, which will be featuring in this upcoming MX-5. This exclusive system is built to reduce fuel consumption and emission while enhancing power at the same time. With the upcoming MX-5 being 220 pounds lighter than its predecessor, the roadster will sure create a new record as the lowest fuel consuming roadster in its segment.

When Mazda releases the MX-5 next year, it will come with an entry price tag of $23,970 an end estimated fuel consumption range of 21mpg to 28mpg.
