2014 Nissan Pulsar Review: Why Must It Look Weird?

It has been a long while since we saw Nissan developing a hatchback and now, the wait is finally over after the Japanese carmaker launched the all-new Pulsar. The latter is built to cater to those SUV haters. After all, not everyone likes to drive something tall and big.

Regardless, the Pulsar is heavily inspired by its SUV siblings, namely the Qashqai. Nissan has taken some mechanical bits and pieces from their bestselling compact SUV and gave it to the Pulsar. The result is an awkward looking exterior and a decent interior on the vehicle.

For a car, it has a pretty tall roofline so don’t expect it to offer a splendid aerodynamics. The funny thing about the Pulsar’s design is the front and rear bumpers. The kind of stick outwards so much that it spoils the decent proportion which the hatchback should have.

Under the hood, the Pulsar is powered by the 1.2L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The motor has got 113hp to offer as it runs on the FWD system. In terms of performance, the Pulsar can sprint from knots to 100km/h in 10.7 seconds and there is a top speed of 118mph.

While it might sound average, there is something the Pulsar is able to offer that not many can replicate. It is the Nissan’s hallmark dynamic handling which makes driving the Pulsar a thrilling experience. Costing at £20,345, the car is also cheap to own.

In the long run, owners will notice a lot of savings as the Pulsar returns an unbeatable fuel consumption of 55.4mpg. This is definitely something worth looking into.
