Last month, Mazda launched the next-generation Mazda 3 and despite all the hype built towards its release, the vehicle does not enjoy an explosive sales figure. It appears that this is because of the Mazda 3’s price tag, which is too expensive for the consumers.
Mazda claims that the pricing is justified as the car runs on the all-new SkyActiv technology which is said to improve performance, handling and more importantly, fuel economy. True enough, the Mazda 3 delivered just that.
We got behind the wheels of the compact sedan Mazda 3 and the handling has been superb. We were able to swift past every corners and bends with ease as the Mazda 3 maintains its grip on the road. Also, the car has an extremely low fuel consumption figures and perhaps, it might just be the most fuel economic vehicle in its class.
Inside the vehicle, everything is well-done. Mazda actually utilized premium materials to ensure that the driver and passengers enjoy the ultimate comfort in the Mazda 3. Heck, the interior can be compared to the C-Class and Audi A3.
On the downside of things, the Mazda 3 is poorly insulated. Even when we were driving at a low cruising speed of 60km/h, we were heavily annoyed by the loud tyre noise and wind noise. Furthermore, the Mazda 3 feels underpowered and we needed to floor the gas pedal just to draw out the horses. This is probably due to the SkyActiv technology, which focuses too much on saving fuel.
Judging from our experience with the Mazda 3, we feel that the price tag is not worth it. It is just too costly and for that same amount, one can get a more powerful and thrilling vehicle.
