2014 Jeep Wrangler Review: Legendary Looks, Outdated Engine

Earlier this year, Jeep launched the all-new Wrangler Dragon and it has got a mixed reaction from the public. For starters, the Wrangler badge has been losing its on-road presence and it don’t look like recovering anytime soon.

The Wrangler Dragon isn’t something meant for the masses. Instead, it was created to reward Jeep’s fans. The American carmaker revealed that the Dragon is a limited edition vehicle and it only comes in black colour.

The Dragon retails at $51,000. This is insanely high as the 4×4 isn’t that well-equipped in the first place. For starters, the Dragon is powered by the familiar 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine which delivers 209kW/347Nm and combined cycle fuel consumption of 11.9l/100kms. The vehicle is driven with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Then again, this is an old engine which continues to be recycled by Jeep. The carmaker should have already created their next-gen mills by now. Also, the Automatic transmission is too basic. Obviously, the Dragon was created by cutting and pasting parts from other vehicles. If Jeep was serious, they could have easily increased the gear ration to offer better performance and efficiency.

When driving the Wrangler Dragon, it cruises very well on the highway. Things are kept quiet and smooth. In city drive, the vehicle managed to travel decently but happened to e a massive fuel drainer

All in all, the Wrangler Dragon is surely something exciting for the 4×4 fans. Then again, we feel that the price tag is not justified at all. Limited or not, Jeep could have offered more with the Wrangler Dragon.
