A couple of weeks ago, Ford launched the all-new Edge and the SUV looks to continue on the success of its predecessor. The latest Edge comes with tons of improvements, particularly with the engine that rest under its hood.
In detail, the new Edge is powered by a 4-cylinder Ecoboost engine that varies in size based on the vehicle’s trim level. The one we tested is running on the 2L Ecoboost engine that is paired to a low inertia turbocharger that keeps the Edge more linear.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that ensures 240hp and 270ft-lbs of torque. The Edge also returns fuel consumption range of 21-30mpg. This is remarkable and is partly owed to the FWD architecture that the Edge operates on.
Despite running on the award-winning Ecoboost engine, it hurts to learn that the Edge suffers from turbo lag. However, Ford did a great job in hiding the turbo lag so drivers no longer have to do a countdown before the air gets pumped into the engine.
The top of the line Edge is totally different from the ones we tested. It rides on the AWD architecture and draws its power from a 3.5L V6 mill that is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This high-power Edge offers 285hp and 253 ft-lbs of torque. The fuel consumption figures stands at 18/25/21mpg.
Aside from all that, the Edge carries some pride with its design. The previous model was awarded as the best looking SUV and the latest Edge came out with something more appealing. Of course, most of its design language is still similar to its predecessor.
