2014 Acura MDX Review: Major Redesign But With The Same Great Performance

Acura had just launched the next-gen MDX and the SUV is already grabbing the attention in the automotive industry. The seven-seater vehicle is about two inches longer than its predecessor.

In terms of design, the new Acura MDX has the same styling as the 5-seater model. It has a luxurious appearance thanks to the new Jewel Eye LED headlights and the wrap around LED tail lights.

Inside the cabin, the focus is on the central infotainment touchscreen system. When compared to its predecessor, the new system manages to reduce the number of buttons from 41 to 9. The infotainment system is not the only glass panel in the car. In fact, every seat has their designated screen that will entertain the passengers throughout the journey.

Furthermore, the MDX is the most comfortable model in its line ever. The SUV is finally equipped with electronic seats. This means that passengers can adjust the width and leg room between the second row seats and the third row seats easily. Without any adjustment, the third row seats can fit in an average teenager with ease.

Under the hood, the MDX is powered by a V6 mill that offers 290hp and 267ft-lbs of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that can function manually through the paddle shift function. Of course, the MDX drives on the AWD system that comes with three driving modes- comfort, normal and sport.

Selecting comfort can get really annoying as the throttle lets out a loose feeling. This simply takes the fun away from driving and gave us, discomfort. Choosing normal offers a sharper steering with a controlled power limiter. Then, there is sports mode which fully opens the cage to unleash the ponies.

Acura truly deserves some credits for creating the all-new MDX as the SUV has been amazing throughout our test. It even impressed us with its fuel consumption figures, which stands at 18/27/21 mpg. For a V6 powered vehicle, this is extraordinary.
