Earlier this month, news broke out from the folks over at AllThingsD that Apple would likely announce the iPad 2 sometime in the first week of March (they went with March 2nd). Well it looks like we now have “confirmation” that while the date predicted is incorrect, AllThingsD got the ‘first week’ of March part right.
MacRumors: Apple iPad 3 announcement date “confirmed”
After iMore reported that Apple was set to announce the iPad 3 on Wednesday March 2nd, claiming that it would feature a 2048 x 1536 Retina display, quad-core A6 processor and “possibly” 4G LTE from sources “who have been reliable in the past”, as Jim Dalrymple of LoopInsight come forward and confirmed it. MacRumors reports:
“Jim Dalrymple of LoopInsight confirms the date with a simple “Yep”. Dalrymple is known to have sources inside Apple.”
While this isn’t the same thing as an official date, the confirmation is as close as any of us will get given that Apple only announces its products 1 week before it actually happens in order to issue media invites. On a side note, if the iPad 3 follows the iPad 2 launch schedule then we should see the next-generation Apple tablet in stores exactly one week from its debut.
