By now you will be well aware that Apple has discontinued the MacBook White which until today was the cheapest MacBook available and ideal for educational institutions.
Budget 13-inch MacBook Air replaces white MacBook for students
Now Apple has somewhat setup a replacement by offering a $999 stripped-down 13-inch MacBook Air to schools that decide to order them in bulk
So what makes this stripped down 13-inch MacBook air different than the current entry-level 11-inch MacBook Air? According to MacRumors, it is equipped with a 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 2GB non-upgradeable RAM, and 64GB SSD. However, it features a 13.3-inch 1440×900 pixel display.
Apple is currently offering this budget MacBook Air in sets of five for $4,995, or in 10s and 20s which come with a laptop cart and an AirPort Extreme base station ($11,399 and $21,599 respectively).
On the side, Apple is offering three other MacBook Air variants in sets of 5s. These save schools a small $20 per MacBook Air over the standard retail price when purchased in singles.
