With the HP TouchPad making waves when its price tag was dropped to $100, we’ve been waiting for the next big Android tablet deal to arrive. Unfortunately the closest it came to was the $199 Amazon Kindle Fire.
$99 IdolPad promises Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update
Now we may have a $99 Android tablet that is nothing like the other cheap tablets with low performance and lack of features. We’re talking about the 7-inch IdolPad Android tablet.
At first glance its decent 1GHz Cortex A9 CPU and 512MB RAM isn’t anything to brag about. But a recent press release by the company has confirmed that the IdolPad will be getting its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update “by the end of May 2012”. That’s right, we’re talking about a $99 tablet running the latest Android update.
Now Of course don’t expect this to be an iPad killer or for that matter a Kindle Fire killer. If anything, it will be a tablet that will give the other two a run for their money should the ICS update run on it without a hitch.
For $99, you get a 7-inch display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution, 4GB of internal storage space, HDMI port, microUSB port, WiFi 802.11 b/g connectivity, G-Sensor, accelerometer, microSDHC card slot for expanded storage and a battery that is good for 4 to 6 hours on a single charge.
