While we are in the heart of CES 2012, an event that Apple has decided to skip year after year, it also happens to be around the same time we see a sudden influx in new iPhone, iPad and iPod touch rumors. Some call it a coincidence while others believe Apple’s marketing team has a slight hand in it. Nevertheless today has been a busy day for Apple news with two big sources “divulging” so-called interesting details about the upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
iPhone 5 and iPad 3 (reports)
It was just earlier today that Bloomberg reported the iPad 3 will feature a quad-core chip, Retina Display and 4G LTE support. Now Katy Huberty, a Morgan Stanley analyst, has elaborated on Apple’s supposed plans for the new iPhone 5 this year.
According to the Morgan Stanley report, the iPhone 5 will have a slimmer body and a quad-mode chip which means it can operate on all 3G and 4G LTE networks. This just so happens to tie in with what a T-Mobile executive was quoted as saying earlier today at CES 2012. According to the exec, the iPhone 5 will boast AWS support and therefore it could technically work on T-Mobile’s 3G network. However this comment was quickly covered up later in the day when T-Mobile released the following statement:
“Comments made by T-Mobile’s CTO, Neville Ray, regarding the evolution of chipsets to include additional bands were misconstrued. Mr. Ray was speaking generally to chipset advancements available to all phone manufacturers. T-Mobile has no knowledge of Apple’s product roadmap and our position on the iPhone has not changed.”
To think that it was exactly a year ago during CES 2011 when we first heard rumors of the iPad 2’s dual-core processor and slimmer design. 😉
