As many of you know, the latest Android OS, Android 4.0 / Ice Cream Sandwich is taking its sweet time to reach the Android devices it needs to. In the UK and Ireland, the firmare XXLQ2 has arrived to users of the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000. Those users who are in the UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Spain are able to upgrade to this firmware and those from other areas are able to flash it to their Android device. So if you don’t have the update yet and can’t wait any longer, here is how to do it manually.

Please do beware that there is a bug on the firmware that may harm your SD card and potentially brick your Samsung Galaxy Note if you wipe the data, reformat partitions from recovery or factory reset the device. Ensure you do none of this if you do intend to install the aforementioned XXLQ2 firmware.
Here’s a handy guide for those who do want to install so they can get Android 4.0 and all its apps and features:
Extract N7000XXLQ2_N7000XEULP4_XEU.zip files to the desktop of your computer. Once you have extracted you should files called N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000XEULP4_HOME.tar.md5 and SS_DL.dll
Extract Odin 1.85.zip onto your computer.
Turn off your device.
Put the Galaxy Note into “Download Mode” You can do this by pressing and holding down the “Volume Down” key, “Home button” and the “Power button”. A warning screen will appear and you press the “Volume up” key to go into the Download Mode.
Head into the folder where you extracted the file named “Odin3 v1.85” and double click the exe file to launch it on your computer.
Click the “PDA” button in Odin 3.
Choose the N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000XEULP4_HOME.tar.md5 file.
Do not change anything in Odin 3 expect the above loading of the file.
Connect your handset to your computer via the USB cable. You will then see the world “Added” in the message box of Odin. If you do not see this make sure that the USB drivers have been properly installed on your computer.
Click the “Start” button in Odin 3 to flash the firmware to your handset. When the flash has completed your Galaxy Note will reboot automatically. The message “Pass” will also show up in Odin 3.
Detach the handset from the computer when you see the Samsung logo appear on your handsets screen.”
If you follow the instructions to the letter on your Galaxy Note GT-N7000, you will be lucky enough to have the most up to date and official Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update on your device, in version XXLQ2. Enjoy!
