Famed Apple blogger John Gruber has tried to set the record straight when it comes to all the rumors that have been floating around concerning the iPad Mini.
Gruber: iPad Mini may come in at 8-inches
Gruber, who is well sourced says that a little birdie from Cupertino has told him that Apple are in fact working on a smaller version of their iPad. However it will not be a 7-inch device. Gruber said that the screen size is very specific and will be 7.85 inches diagonally with 1024 x 768 pixels, which means it will be closer to 8 inches than 7 inches.
Gruber said that a 7 inch screen would provide a lot less surface area than a 7.85 inch version would and hence owners couldn’t enjoy an experience which is in line with using a New iPad (9.75-inches). Number crunching suggests that the 7 inch iPad Mini would give 45% of the surface area of the regular iPad, while 7.85 inches would give 66% surface area.
This of course is a huge difference and would mean that using the 7.85-inch iPad Mini would be easier for those with large fingers. Alas, with all Apple rumors we suggest taking this one with a grain of salt. The iPad Mini is speculated to release alongside the iPhone 5 sometime in Q3 2012.
