It may have been a long time coming but now owners of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx are able to get their hands on ICS. This is not the latest OS from Android of course as that would be Jelly Bean, but at least there is fresh software giving new life to what already happens to be a great phone.
Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (hands on)
The Maxx was very popular when it was launched early 2012. One of the reasons it became popular was the battery life of the handset. Users get more than 20 hours of HD video playing. The 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Screen is superb and about the only let down was the lack of ICS. Now the phone has the update, what new features can owners look forward to?
The new lock screen is one and now users are able to go straight to their camera, phone of texts by fragging the key icon in various directions. There is also support for folders which means less clutter on the home screen.
Users can now take photos while they are recording video and there is a burst mode, although this has to be set manually. Voice to text is now an option and you can dictate messages if you have a data connection. The handset feels livelier for having the update and this is perhaps down to slicker animations. Of course with the lack of NFC on the handset users do not get to enjoy bumping their phones with a friend with Android Beam.
All in all, the verdict on the update is good and ICS has made an improvement to the handset. Of course with the release of Jelly Bean there will be some people out there who will want all the fancy skills that this more recent OS comes with, but the Razr Maxx has at least been united with modern Android software, has superb battery life and is a premium design. Thanks to Android Ice Cream Sandwich the best just got even better
