While the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a superb handset, it is apparently not without problems. So before you plunk out the cash to get one, you might want to know what problems have been reported by users and how they might affect you. Some of the issues have an instant fix while others could see you having to send the handset back for a replacement.
Samsung Galaxy S3 bugs, complaints and fixes
Some users on the FiatForum have been having problems with charging their handsets. Some cannot get the phone to raise a charge at all, leaving the handset stuck on what charge you have left. Some hours later the phone then decides to charge. Another owner had to wait for 9 hours to get a 40% charge on their handset saying that the phone starts charging then stops and it did this over a 9 hour period.
Overheating and exploding handsets have been reported. T3 reported that a handset had exploded while it was in a car mount on a dashboard. The phone sent out sparks and then made a loud bang before burning from the inside out and melting the case to the phone. Another report has been of a schoolboy having his phone in his pocket and it exploding. Samsung did say that it could be caused by external pressure being pre-empted on the handset.
Some owners have reported that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is prone to overheating which causes the handset to freeze. Some phones even switch themselves off. Samsung are looking into this problem and say that they are committed to ensuring that they provide the safest products to their customers.
There have been several reports of users not being able to connect to Wi-Fi. Some can connect but the connection only lasts for minutes before being lost again. Users who have pinged their handset find that it is terrible with an average download speed of around 0.02 Mbps. One user said to get his download speeds higher he pulled the Notification Tray down on the handset and then turned off Wi-Fi and turned it back on, then ran the test against which showed around 22 Mbps download and upload speeds of 5Mbps on their home internet.
XDA Developers offered a fix for the Wi-Fi issue: Go into the dialer of the handset; Dial *#0011#; When Service Mode shows, press the left menu button; Chose Wi-Fi; If the Wi-Fi Power Save mode is set to ON turn it OFF; Go out of the menu and turn the Wi-Fi off and back on and remove the network information and re-enter it.
