Today is the day when owners of the Motorola Droid Razr and Razr Maxx get the long awaited update to Ice Cream Sandwich, reports DroidLife. This has been confirmed by Verizon. The roll out of the update was reported a few days ago and while the update has been confirmed for today, not all users may get the update today. Often the “go live” date is for small groups or testers with the rest of us getting it a few days later (it is a staggered release).
Motorola DROID RAZR Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update now available
On Verizon’s website it stated that two Motorola phones were making the jump to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It went on to say that these were the Motorola Droid RAZR and the RAZR MAXX, which would be the first 4G LTE handsets on Verizon to be Global Ready. They said that the upgrade would start on 22nd June and would be available for all phones in the Droid RAZR family.
The Motorola DROID RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich update comes with numerous improvements and functionality including Face Unlock. Owners are able to unlock their device simply by looking at it. it also comes with Direct Access Lock Screen which means that users are able to use the camera on the lock screen along with texting and dialing. There is a new video calling icon which ensures easy access to the video chat apps and it provides an update to the voice input technology.
Being Global Ready means that owners are able to use data and voice services in over 220 countries with an international plan (it has GSM capabilities built in). On a side note, rumors suggest that a successor called the Motorola DROID RAZR HD is coming soon.
