The CEO of Foxconn, Terry Gou, spoke to reporters recently and made some very bold statements about the iPhone 5. While there were a few translations, the majority said that he asked customers to wait for the new iPhone 5. He was also reported as saying that it would put the Galaxy S3 from Samsung to “shame”.
Foxconn CEO states iPhone 5 will put Samsung Galaxy S3 to “shame”
Gou was also reported as saying that he had made it his lifetime goal to beat Samsung. He also made reference to them as being the company with a record of snitching on competitors. This was a reference to their actions in 2010 when they snitched on four companies in Taiwan during an investigation which was held by the European Commission on price fixing within the flat panel industry.
The CEO went on to say that the Saki plant of Foxconn has an agreement with Corning Inc on exclusive large panel supply. Corning is the supplier of glass known as Gorilla Glass. He said the agreement was exclusive and that competitors would not be able to get their hands on the material. At the moment everyone is waiting to see if Foxconn gives a statement about this quote as in the past stories have misquoted Gou.
Gou was thought to have said that he respects the Japanese and likes their communication and execution styles, as unlike Koreans; they would not hit you from behind. There were reports out in May which stated that Gou had said that Apple was getting ready for Apple TV. However, this statement turned out not to be true with Foxconn saying that Gou had neither confirmed nor speculated about the involvement with Foxconn in the production of any product.
Could the new iPhone 5 have a larger screen of Gorilla Glass or is this just another misquote, we will have to wait and see. What is for certain is that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the most powerful handset on the market right now.
