Samsung Galaxy Note vs Galaxy S3: Which Should You Get?

There is little doubt that one of the most talked about handsets of this year running Android is the Samsung Galaxy S3. It has a Super AMOLED screen of 4.8 inches and comes with one of the most powerful processors in a smartphone today. Coincidentally, the size of the screen is only bettered by its sibling the Samsung Galaxy Note which comes in at 5.3-inches. Show how else do the handsets compare with each other? Let’s find out.

Samsung Galaxy Note vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Thanks to the larger display and despite the fact that the Note has a lower ppi than the S3 at 285, it does come out the winner since both pixel densities appear to high to differentiate. Secondly when it comes to design, the Samsung Galaxy S3 with is high-gloss finish appears rather plasticky, making the Galaxy Note appear like the more premium of the two models.

However the tables turn quickly after that. In regards to processor the Samsung Galaxy S3 happens to be one of the most powerful of devices as it runs an Exynos 1.4GHz processor and in the US despite going dual-core it has 2GB RAM. For storage there are 16GB, 32GB and 64GB option and there is external storage of up to 64GB. The Samsung Galaxy Note has a 1.4GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM and the option of either 16GB or 32GB with an additional 32GB external. The S3 comes out on top with more power and storage.

Both phones naturally offer the standard connectivity such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi along with LTE versions of the phone, but the S3 comes with wireless charging and S-Beam as added extras.

Moving on, the Samsung Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz and has apps such as Smart Stay and S Voice. The Samsung Galaxy Note comes with Android 2.3 but can be updated in the future and has the addition of stylus apps. However the apps on the S3 as well as its numerous ‘S’ functions overshadow the Note’s stylus support given its higher usability on a daily basis.

The camera on the S3 is 8 megapixels just like the Samsung Galaxy Note but the S3 boasts features like zero shutter lag, burst mode and also has the same camera sensor as the much praised iPhone 4S camera. so again the S3 is the winner.

Battery life has not been tested on the S3 in real world conditions but coming in at 2,100mAh battery versus the Note and its 2,500 mAh battery, we’ll let Note get the benefit of the doubt.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has more power in the hardware department and better software features. On the other hand the Note has the bigger screen and a stylus which is not available on any other Android smartphone at this time. Verdict: The S3 comes out on top but the Note is not far behind.
