Microsoft has announced an official Xbox LIVE app for the Android operating system. The app allows users to view and modify the 3D avatar on their Xbox. It can also track achievements, connect with your LIVE friends on the Xbox and provide you with information and news from the Spotlight feeds.
Xbox Live app for Android now available
The app has the Metro feel to it and it clashes with Android naturally. On saying this it is very functional and robust. It is worth noting that Microsoft has chosen to release the app on the Android operating system. But then it has to be said that Windows phones haven’t skyrocketed in the way that Microsoft would have liked, apart from the Nokia Lumia, which seems to be the exception to that rule.
The integration of Xbox LIVE has always been one of the major bullet points for phones with the Windows OS and even though the new app does not cover all that LIVE on the Xbox offers, it is an indication that Microsoft are loosening their grip on some of the principal properties.
The app does have compatibility problems with some tablets as while it will install it refuses to work on the Xoom, stating that the app will not work well enough with the device. It is hoped that Microsoft will work on compatibility issues over time. The description of the app states that it will work on any device with 2.2+ and with a WGVA screen resolution.
