Earlier in the week, the folks over at CNET compared the cameras of the Nokia 808 PureView with that of the Apple iPhone 4S. On looking at the feedback they said that they should have been more conclusive when it came to certain aspects and they decided to compare again, this time throwing the camera of the HTC One X into the mix.
Camera test: iPhone 4S vs HTC One X vs Nokia 808 PureView
All of the photos were taken with 8 megapixels and the default setting. The PureView was set to PureView resolution on the highest quality. It has the advantage of the technology Nokia call “pixel overlay” which combines seven pixels together to make one super pixel. All three of the photos are seen on a calibrated monitor, first in full, then 100% crop. Three editors then looked over the photos taken indoors from each of the handsets.
CNET’s Aloysius said that the iPhone took the best photos based on exposure. However when zoomed in for the crop, the 808 actually delivered the best detail as you could actually see the metal grain of the walls. Jacqueline of CNET said the colors of the Nokia 808 PureView were truest to the actual scene, slightly on the warm side and for clarity it won hands down. While it was a little over exposed, it did show glass walls pattern.
Lastly CNET’s Shawn said that when photos were taken in dark interiors the photos of the iPhone 4S were warm and the photos from the HTC One X had a grainy look and seemed to be over sharpened. Those of the 808 stood out thanks to their colors and image quality, even in low light. So overall, it looks like the Nokia 808 Pureview comes in ahead of the iPhone 4S, and the HTC One X trails last.
