Samsung Galaxy S3 To Get Tizen-ed?

With Samsung making the Galaxy S3 specs official earlier last week, long running rumors of what the next generation Samsung flagship models would have to offer have been put to rest.

Samsung Galaxy S3 hardware may be used in Tizen & Windows Phone 8 devices

The good news is that we got the quad-core Exynos processor, wireless charging and larger screen. What was left out though was a 12-megapixel camera, 2GB RAM and 1080p display (although 720p is sufficient on a mobile screen).

It goes without saying that this next-gen hardware will make its way into future Galaxy branded phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the many US variants of the S3 that are soon to roll out. However we may also see this hardware go cross platform.

Late last month, we reported on rumors that pointed out to a Windows Phone 8 device from Samsung that would utilize the same Galaxy S3 hardware. Now the folks over at ITProPortal speculate that the same hardware may even by used for the Tizen platform.

If you’ve never heard of the Tizen OS before then here’s a quick refresher. The Tizen platform merges Nokia’s Maemo, Samsung’s Bada and Intel’s Moblin altogether, and there are already images of a prototype device floating around the Web that hint we may see one on the market very soon.

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 launched with mixed reactions due to its exterior styling, the hardware is solid and will prove to be a perfect base for the launch of a Tizen smartphone. Here’s hoping Samsung believes that as well.
