The Samsung Galaxy S3 was officially unveiled last week and with it putting an end to speculations of the hardware it would be running.
While the Samsung Galaxy S3 is arguably one of the most powerful announced smartphones on the market right now, its debut was met with mixed reactions. Rumors of a 4.8-inch display, quad-core Exynos processor, wireless charging and S-Voice support all came to fruition. However speculations of 2GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera and a premium body made of ceramic didn’t.
While the stripped down version of TouchWiz running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor may easily be able to mask the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has 1GB of RAM instead of 2GB, and the fact that more megapixels doesn’t necessarily dictate better picture quality (12MP vs 8MP), the biggest complaint with the Samsung Galaxy S3 was that it utilized a plastic case and somewhat disappointing form factor.
Expecting a redesign from ground up and a ceramic body with a finishing similar to that of Rado watches, fans were instead greeted by a form factor that looked quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and a hyperglazed glossy plastic case that better suited toys than premium high-end smartphones.
iPhone 5 may strike at most criticized aspect of Samsung Galaxy S3, its looks
Given that the biggest rival to the Samsung Galaxy S3 in terms of sales will without a doubt be the next-generation iPhone, now just dubbed the iPhone 5, this may be just what Apple will strike at. The iPhone brand has been know for its iconic design and premium feel. The iPhone 4 and 4S both featured a mix of glass and aluminum that made it one of the best looking smartphones on the market to date. Now rumors suggest that the iPhone 5 will live up to this title by introducing a new liquid metal body. The iPhone 5 could see its glass casing replaced with a liquid metal casting that offers strength and scratch resistance. The material will also give the device a liquid smooth finish and gives Apple more flexibility to create unique body shape designs.
Given that rumors suggest the iPhone 5 specs will be quite similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S3 (4G LTE connectivity, 1.5GHz quad-core A6 processor, 1GB RAM, Retina display of 1280×720 resolution, larger display), a better choice of materials and design will once again bring focus to the exterior over the hardware just like we saw with the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S2.
