With Apple officially announcing that its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will kick off on June 11th, it has also kicked off a host of rumors as to what we can expect the Cupertino based company to showcase on the day.
The usual suspects would be iOS 6, iPhone 5 and even a new MacBook Air or Pro. So what are the likelihoods of each of these announcements happening this summer? Let’s find out.
WWDC 2012 predictions
iOS 6 – High chances
Last year at WWDC 2011, iOS 5.0 went solo and made its debut at the event. While the iPhone 4S was a no-show, it didn’t stop Apple from unveiling (and indirectly hinting) what the iPhone 4S might be capable of doing. This year, the chances of Apple announcing iOS 6.0 at WWDC once again are high even if it doesn’t have new hardware to couple with it.
iPhone 5 – 50/50
If it wasn’t for the delayed release of the iPhone 4S last year, it would have go without saying that Apple would launch the iPhone 5 in San Francisco this summer. However because of this delay, there is now a 50 percent chance that Apple may save the iPhone 5 for a fall release, especially since the iPhone 4S ended up braking new sales records in that quarter.
New MacBook Air or Pro – Not likely
While we do predict a MacBook Air and Pro refresh this year, given Apple’s track record with the last few releases, we may see the new MacBook models land ahead of WWDC 2012 in a soft launch. Word on the street is that it will be a minimal upgrade (no redesigned body).
Did we miss out on any other potential Apple products that may launch at WWDC 2012? iPad mini, Apple Panel TV, new iPod? Sound off in the comments below.
