While smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S3 are expected to be head on collide with the likes of the iPhone 5, Motorola DROID RAZR HD and HTC One X, the Samsung Galaxy Note has managed to carve a niche market for itself that remains untapped. Like all things electronics however, that isn’t going to last long.
ZTE to release two Samsung Galaxy Note alternatives later this year
The folks over at ZTE have just announced that they are working on two “Galaxy Note type” products scheduled to release before the year is up. The Samsung Galaxy Note falls in a gray area between phones and tablets as it occupies the 5 to 7 inch screen size region. So we can expect the two ZTE smartphones to fall in somewhere here.
Now while ZTE is reportedly working on quad-core smartphones, there is still the odd chance that it will launch with specs similar to its current gen devices e.g. the Optik with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. Nevertheless, given that the Samsung Galaxy Note packs a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, it should still be able to take on the phablet.
The question is, how long will it take ZTE to introduce its “Galaxy Note killer” to the market? With many Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile users itching to get their hands on a Samsung Galaxy Note which still appears to be an AT&T exclusive, if ZTE can roll its two phablets out by this summer then they may be able to capitalize on this void. However if they wait too long, there are chances that we may see an Samsung Galaxy Note 2 before the year is up.
