You’ve just got to love the Android platform for this very reason. When you think you found the smartphone that you’re ready to tie up with for the next two years of your contract, another manufacturer releases their own flagship device that makes things complicated. This is never the case when it comes to the iPhone, BlackBerry or even Windows Phone 7 (while there are multiple Windows Phone 7 devices, their hardware is almost identical due to the hardware requirements and compatibility restrictions set by the platform).
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Motorola DROID RAZR HD
This year, all eyes are on the Samsung Galaxy S3, arguably the best smartphone of 2012. Thought to not only outshine the iPhone 4S but also any other Android smartphone scheduled for 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S3 rumored specs read like a dream. However it now looks like it may have a serious contender up against it by way of Motorola. Read on.
Since March, we’ve seen the Motorola DROID RAZR HD leak multiple times. But nothing beats the Picasa leak which confirmed the name via EXIF data. In addition to the name, the leak (claimed to be made by a Motorola employee) reveals that it will feature a high-definition display. We know that is shares a similar design to the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX but has a larger screen as well (rumored to be around 4.7-inches). And with a 3,300mAh battery in its predecessor, we can expect the same if not better for the RAZR HD.
Moving on, the folks over at Pocket-Lint point out that the specs, “state its aperture as f2.4 this puts the Droid RAZR HD alongside that of the iPhone 4S, while the handset is also thought to be able to capture 13-megapixel snaps.”
It will also come pre-loaded with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and rely on ICS home-screen buttons. So what we’re basically looking at here is another fabled Android that is on par with the Samsung Galaxy S3 on paper but has a couple of extras: better camera (13MP vs 12MP), no unnecessary physical buttons up front (Galaxy S3 is rumored to retain the physical home button despite coming with ICS), and a larger battery (3,300mAh versus 1,850mAh).
Add this with rumors that the next Motorola smartphones will use the new Snapdragon S4 chipsets which are faster than quad-core Tegra 3 devices on the market, and we’ve got a beast of a phone here.
