The HTC One X has already gone on sale in many markets across Asia and Europe and is destined to hit the US anyday now. Given that it is arguably the most powerful ‘announced’ Android smartphone to date, many users who are due for an upgrade will be eying it as their next phone. The question here however is, should you jump on the HTC One X the moment it hits AT&T or should you wait for the fabled Samsung Galaxy S3?
It is quite surprising that Samsung has decided to not divulge the specs of the Galaxy S3 yet. Given that the HTC One X is already stealing a lot of its thunder, you would think Samsung would be worried about losing out on sales. The reason for the silence on Samsung’s part could be because of two things: they don’t think they can match the HTC One X (remember when the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 we saw at MWC was taken back to the drawing board after the iPad 2 announcement so it could be slimmer than its competitor); or the buzz the Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors are stirring up is enough for buyers to overlook the HTC One X.
Whatever may be the reason, lets take a look at both devices, keeping in mind that the specs mentioned for the Samsung Galaxy S3 are just rumors.
HTC One X confirmed specs vs Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors
The HTC One X boasts a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes slightly ahead with a 1.8GHz quad-core chip with 2GB RAM. Moving on to the screen, we see both boast a 4.7-inch display but the HTC One X is 720p while the Samsung Galaxy S3 goes with 1080p. On the rear, we find the Samsung Galaxy S3 again take a lead with its 12-megapixel camera versus the 8MP shooter on the One X.
Both smartphones are expected to launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich however in the case of the HTC One X, its LTE variant (AT&T model) will swap its quad-core processor for a dual-core Snapdragon due to incompatibility issues with LTE radios.
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and its rumored specs seem to outshine the HTC One X in every way so we would suggest not jumping on any pre-order opportunities for the HTC One X just yet. If the AT&T HTC One X is announced later this month, we won’t be surprised if this triggers Samsung to reveal something concrete about the Galaxy S3. If it doesn’t live up to the rumors or its US release seems much further away, then there should be no regrets with going with the HTC One X.
