The Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 look set to be top two smartphones of 2012. Both smartphone’s details appear to be kept under heavy wraps and they appear to be on a collision course this summer. Now, as more details begin to surface about the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5, they are starting to sound almost alike.
Putting aside the earlier rumored specs of quad-core processors, 4G LTE, 12-megapixel camera sensors, and NFC, the latest details about the exterior materials used and display size seem much more than just a coincidence.
iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 to feature ceramic case
Two separate reports, here and here, suggest that the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 will feature ceramic cases. The iPhone 5 will swap its predecessor’s glass for the tougher ceramic, while the almost plastic-like feeling Galaxy S2’s case will be replaced by a ceramic finish similar to that found in Rado watches when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S3. Coincidence? Read on.
iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 to boast 4.6-inch display
We’ve been hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S3 getting a larger 4.6-inch to 4.7-inch HD display which makes sense given that Samsung employed a similar screen in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Now Reuters reports that sources have revealed that the iPhone 5 will get a 4.6-inch Retina Display. Given that the iPhone has been using a 3.5-inch screen since the original iPhone was released over 4 years ago, this breaks tradition.
So if rumors serve true, we may see both the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 boast quad-core processors, 12-megapixel rear cameras, 4G LTE connectivity, ceramic casing and 4.6″ HD screens. Crazy isn’t it?
