Right on cue, Apple has gone ahead and announced that it will be unveiling the long awaited iPad 3 on March 7th, 10AM at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
iPad 3 invites officially sent out, arriving March 7th
The invite which was sent out showed off a small portion of the upcoming iPad 3 and pointed at the calendar icon in the dock to reveal the March 7th date. According to the latest rumors, we will be seeing a faster processor and Retina Display although the form factor will remain almost identical to the current iPad 2.
Interestingly, the small glimpse of the iPad 3 in the invite showcased the dock but there was no home button in sight. Now we’re not implying that Apple has decided to scrape the home button altogether but what we see in these invites are properly thought through and anything that would be considered as a mistake is more than likely deliberate.
Of course, the iPad 3 could just be held upside down or in landscape but it would be weird for Apple to present it in such a manner given unless their goal was to make this a cause for discussion. We’ll keep you posted as more develops.
Update: Wouldn’t you know it, the missing home button has already started to cause up a stir over on Reddit. We’re seeing suggestions for everything from no more home buttons to inductive charging (the charging port at the bottom of the dock is missing). Check out the Reddit post here.
