While it is still early in the year, Google is expected to roll out the next-generation Nexus phone around Christmas as usual and hence should already be in the process of picking which hardware manufacturer and chipset vendor they will partnering with for the fourth rendition of the Nexus superphone.
Originally starting with HTC, the Google Nexus One was a great phone in the developer community but didn’t fair so well in terms of sales. Things changed when the Samsung Nexus S was released and available through US carriers. And now the latest Nexus phone, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, continues to fair well in terms of sales despite stiff competition from other VZW Android phones like the Motorola DROID RAZR and HTC Rezound.
LG in talks with Google over producing the Google Nexus 4
The first to step forward in 2012 with an official announcement is LG. In Barcelona at MWC today, Ramchan Woo (head of LG’s smartphone division), stated that they are in talks with Google to be chosen for producing this year’s Nexus phone. Now of course this isn’t final as Woo states that they are still “working on it.”
If Google truly wishes to pass the torch to a new hardware manufacturer then their best bet would either be LG or Motorola at this point. Which would you prefer? Sound off in the comments below.
