Resident Evil 7: Staying True To The Game

Earlier at the DICE summit this year, the Capcom Vice President talked about Resident Evil and at the same time he dropped out hints about Resident Evil 7. He said:

“I wouldn’t say [we released] too many. Revelations, Operation: Raccoon City, and Resident Evil 6. So it was a lot in 12 months. And then we’re bringing Revelations to consoles and PC in a few months. But after that, you’re going to see us scale back, take stock of what worked and what didn’t work, and think about what the future of the is.”

When Resident Evil 6 arrived it wasn’t the hit that the developers thought it would be and 2 million sales dropped from the 7 million that were predicted. The game sold well when it first arrived and sales then dropped off. At the moment you can pick it up for $19.99 over at Best Buy.

Fans didn’t like the fact that game didn’t have the survival/horror feel that had been in the other games. Some people even said that it was more like playing Call of Duty. The game lost the scary feel and the three different story lines were confusing.

Svenson said “Well, you have to understand, we have a couple different sets of Resident Evil fans. We have those who love Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica, and Zero, and then we have those who came along during the RE4 era and like things a little more action-oriented, and RE5 even more [action-oriented]. And then RE6 was even more action-focused than that.
“The hard part is taking all these things and figuring out how to make something for everyone. That was especially the aspiration of RE6. I don’t know that it worked out exactly the way we hoped, but moving forward, I think you’re going to see a bit more focus – as opposed to trying to be all things for all people.”

Fans are now hoping that the developers will be more focused on Resident Evil 7 and that the game will not be a mishmash of vehicle and horror segments mixed with action and shooting. If so then it won’t be a success. Resident Evil Revelations arrived on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on 21st May this year.
