Fans of the Half Life franchise has been really patient putting up with the wait for Half Life 3. The highly anticipated third sequel is nothing more than a mystery at the moment as there is no announcement whatsoever from Valve regarding the game.
On the other hand, rumours and leaks have been surfacing over the years hinting on Half Life 3. However, all of them failed to materialize.
Today, a new rumour has started circulating around the web hinting that Half Life 3 will only be released once Occulus has completed the creation of the virtual reality headset known as Rift.
For those who have been living under a rock, Occulus is a huge company that is developing virtual reality headset for video games. It is believed that these VR headsets will be the way of gaming in the near future.
As of this moment, a beta version of SteamVR has been released and it certainly demonstrates the future of gaming. Some games are revealed to be in development for this magnificent device. Despite that fact, none of the games are AAA titles.
The key pointer here is that Occulus is working closely with Valve. The latter saw the potential of the Rift and collaborated closely with the former to develop the future of gaming. At this rate, things are progressing positively and once it is ready, the VR headsets will be Valveās most prized possession and could monopolize the gaming industry just like that.
Of course, such a thing deserves a launch with a AAA title. To ensure the success of the product, the Rift has to be accompanied by something big. This could only be pointing to Half Life 3. After taking a closer look, Valve has been in secrecy with the Rift for a long time now. Anything working in secret must have something to do with Half Life 3.
All in all, this is still a rumour so take it with a pinch of salt. The idea of Half Life 3 to arrive with the Rift might still be ridiculous. On the other hand, Valve has already done the Steam Machines. They have been pretty free and quiet lately which makes the idea of Rift with Half Life pretty likely.
