VW Cross Coupe GT Looks Like A Passat SUV

Back in 2013’s Shanghai Motor Show, Volkswagen became the centre of attention after it unveiled the CrossBlue Concept. Now, Volkswagen did it again after they introduced a new two-row Cross Coupe GT at the 2015 North American International Auto Show.

The Cross Coupe GT concept model can be simply described as the more completed, production-ready version of the CrossBlue Concept from Shanghai. Of course, instead of the angular rear lights, rounded wheel arches, and aggressive front and rear fascias, Volkswagen has equipped the Cross Coupe GT with something that is more toned down.

However, VW is able to keep the Cross Coupe GT interior close like the Crossblue Concept. The only changes are with the 12.3” digital instrument cluster and a 10.1” touchscreen display.

In addition to that, the Cross Coupe GT is built on the MQB platform and it is powered by a 3.6-liter VR6 that’s been mated to two electric motors on each axle. In figures, this develops 276hp and 258ft-lbs of torque. The electric motor, on the other hand, generates 54hp 162ft-lbs on the front and 144hp 199lb-fts on the rear. This totals up to 355hp and 280ft-lbs of torque offered by the Cross Coupe GT.

If running solely on the electric motors, the VW Cross Coupe GT is able to enjoy a distance of about 20 miles. This can be activated by activating the ‘E’ mode. There is also the ‘GTE’ mode which sharpens the throttle and transmission that will offer the ultimate performance.

While it all sounds exciting, it is unfortunate that the VW Cross Coupe GT is still a concept that is unconfirmed for production. If it does get produced however, consumers can expect the car to debut as early as next year.
