Both the Porsche Macan and the Range Rover Evoque are two of the bestselling luxury SUVs in the market today. Despite belonging in the same segment, the Macan and Evoque are tailored for different audiences. Regardless, we are going to compare both vehicles and see which is better.
The Macan, in particular, comes with that typical Porsche design language. It simply looks like the 911 turbo, morphed into an SUV. The Diesel S variant used in this comparison runs on the 254bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel.
Then there is the Evoque which is a beauty in every way. The British SUV has a bold design that instils fear on other road users with its fiery headlights and stylish grille. However, the Evoque is two-cylinders short of the Macan as it drives on the 187bhp 2.2L Evoque SD4 Dynamic Coupe engine.
Putting both the Evoque and the Macan on a straight road, it is the former that sprints ahead due to it bigger torque. However, when on the curvy roads, the Macan dances like an ice-skating pro as it glides and swift past every bend. This is really surprising as the Macan performs like a sports car, even when it is an SUV.
Off the roads, however, it is the Evoque which excels thanks to Land Rover’s trademark Terrain Response system. This basically enables the SUV to climb steep hills and manoeuvre through the harshest trails with ease. The Macan might have some basic off-road features but it isn’t enough to challenge the Evoque.
Then again, off-roading isn’t something that appeals to the vast majority of consumers. As such, we feel that the Porsche Macan is the winner in this contest. There is simply no rivalling the Macan when it comes to on-road performance and handling.
