Land Rover Discovery LR5 Takes A Step Into The Future With See-Through Hood

When we think of cars in the future, the common idea is flying cars. For the small section that actually though of transparent vehicles, well they can start getting excited as that future is well upon us.

This is confirmed after Land Rover demonstrated the Discovery LR5 that will come with a transparent hood. The carmaker revealed that front portion of the vehicle can turn invisible to give drivers an extra viewing angle. This is particularly helpful for off-roaders as the invisible front will help drivers identify the hidden obstacles resting right under the Discovery.

Land Rover explained that the technology used is a rather simple one. All that the manufacturer did is fix a camera under the front portion of the vehicle. The camera will capture live feeds from under the vehicle and transmit it to a HUD that is planted at the top of the car. The latter will then broadcast the image like a projector on the hood of the Discovery which makes it appear as if the front portion is invisible.

The Director of Research and Technology from Jaguar Land Rover, Wolfgang Epple, revealed that the Discovery LR5 will take technology for vehicles to a whole new level. He added that the feature will also be very useful when parking. After all, the Discovery LR5 is a huge vehicle and it can be tricky to drive in cramp areas. With the see-through technology, drivers will get a boost in confidence.
