The Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris and Peugeot 208 are three of the hottest hatchbacks in the world today due to their low running cost, efficiency and red-hot performance. Between the three, which is the best in the segment?
Ford equipped the Fiesta with the all-new PowerShift box that offers 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that promises unrivalled smoothness, performance and efficiency. The 208, on the other hand, is equipped with the EGC single-clutch AMT. Finally is the Yaris that drives on the CVT transmission.
Looking at the Fiesta Powershift, the car retails at £15,795 and is powered by a tiny 1L turbocharged Ecoboost 3-cylinder engine. This generates 99hp and 170Nm of torque. The Fiesta can sprint from 0-60mph in 9.6 seconds while having a top speed of 112mph. Also, the Fiesta has a fuel consumption rating of 42.8-72.4mpg.
Then there is the Toyota Yaris which is slightly cheaper at £15,595. The car is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that offers 99hp and 111Nm of torque. The Yaris can accelerate from 0-60mph in 11.6 seconds with speed being capped at 103mph. The car is also fuel economic as it returns 91-81mpg.
Finally is the Peugeot 208. The French hatchback is powered by 1.2L 3-cylinder engine that generates 82hp and 118Nm of torque. In other words, this means an accelerating from 0 to 60mph can be achieved in 14.7 seconds and there is a top speed of 111mph. The 208 has a fuel rating range of 62.8-72.4mpg.
Judging from the specs above, it is the Fiesta that offers the best performance. However, there is no competing with the Yaris when it comes to offering the best fuel consumption among the three.
