There is some sort of pattern building up with the arrival of every new Wrangler and it is that the cars are going softer to enjoy better fuel mileage and appeal to a wider audience.
Soon, the fuel consumption will be improving by another 9% for the Jeep Wrangler. The carmaker is going to come equip the future Wrangler with an 8-speed automatic transmission that will allow it to achieve better fuel economy.
The new gearbox is already available and used by the 2014 RAM 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2015 Chrysler 300 and 2015 Dodge Charger. When the next-gen Wrangler gets released, it will be equipped with it as well.
Then again, Jeep is still the most criticized carmakers around. Their idea to save petrol is only through offering better gearbox, with more transmissions. If this logic is to follow on, then the 2018 Wranglers will come with 18-gears transmission. Let’s hope this is not true.
