2016 VW Golf R Facelift Tipped For A Modern Vintage Appearance

In about a year from now, a new sports hatchback will be racing on the streets and it is the Volkswagen Golf R Facelift. The vehicle is already confirmed for production and will be based on the concept model that was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show.

With that being said, Golf fans can expect the future facelift model to wear a lemon yellow paint and silver interior. After all, VW intends to restore the spirit of the legendary 1989 Rally Golf with the upcoming model.

Obviously, this also means that the Golf R Facelift will get a slight boost to its performance. While VW is still pending to go into details with the vehicle, we can expect the sports hatch to be built on the Haldex 5 platform. The Golf R Facelift will also be driven on the AWD system.

Under the hood, the Golf R Facelift is expected to run on the 2.2L turbocharged engine that is paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. In figures, the sports hatch will be able to accelerate from knots to 62mmph in 3.9seconds and this is achievable thanks to the 292hp developed by the engine.

Of course, this is merely an expectation and is pending for confirmation by VW. We can expect the German carmaker to shed more light on the matter prior to the Golf R Facelift’s debut next year.
