2016 VW Golf R Facelift Taking Inspirations From Rally Golf

Volkswagen made headlines yesterday after the German carmaker stepped out to announce that the production for the Golf R Facelift has already commenced. Volkswagen revealed that the future Golf R will be based on its concept model that was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show.

If so, then the Golf R Facelift looks set to come with a modern vintage look. This is because the concept model was made to restore the spirit of the 1989 Rally Golf. Since VW has already confirmed the Golf R Facelift to look like the concept, then the vehicle will be wearing a lemon yellow exterior and silver interior.

Furthermore, the Golf R Facelift will be built on the Haldex 5 platform and will be driven on the AWD system. The hatch is expected to draw its powers from a 2.2L turbocharged engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. In figures, the Golf R Facelift will have 292hp to offer and also the ability to sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds.

Of course, it is still too early to confirm on what is coming with the Golf R Facelift. For all we know, the sports hatch will be making its debut next year and it is expected to be a beauty.
