2016 VW Golf R Facelift: Mixing Past & Future Together

The Golf R from Volkswagen will soon get updated with a facelift model and it is due to arrive next year. The upcoming hatchback will look to come with a brand new design language that incorporates modern technologies with a touch of the past.

In detail, the Golf R Facelift will be made to recreate the success of the 1989 Rally Golf. Thus, fans of the Golf badge can look forward to it wearing a yellow paintjob and silver for its interior.

Under the hood, the Golf R Facelift is expected to come with the same 2.3L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is completed with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The hatchback will be built on the Haldex 5 platform and is driven on the AWD system.

Of course, details on the Golf R Facelift are still scarce at the moment but fans can check out the concept model, which was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show. After all, the future Golf R Facelift will be based on the model.
