2016 VW Golf R Facelift: A Blend Of Old School & New School

Volkswagen confirmed yesterday that they will be producing the Golf R Facelift and it is due to arrive next year. In addition to that, the German carmaker also teased that the upcoming sports hatch will be based on the concept model that was seen at the last Beijing Auto Show.

In other words, the Golf R Facelift looks to come with the characteristics of the legendary 1989 Rally Golf. While not much was revealed by Volkswagen, fans of the Golf can expect the upcoming Facelift model to wear a yellow paintjob with silver for its interior.

Of course, the performance will be based on the latest Golf R, which means that the facelift model will still be built on the Haldex 5 platform while being driven on the AWD system. The vehicle will be powered by a 2.3L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.

While it may be too early to predict, the future Golf R Facelift is expected to offer 292hp that allows it to sprint from 0-100km/h in about 3.9 seconds.
