Back in 2008, Chrysler got into a tussle with the Chinese government after discovering that the Jeep Wrangler was banned from the nation due to a fire risk that comes with it. Last year, Chrysler claims that the issue has been resolved but consumers say otherwise.
In a recent case, Sean Heiney from Ann Arbor, Michigan, saw his latest Wrangler burst into flames without any prior warnings whatsoever. The lad revealed that he was driving around 25mph when the brake suddenly failed and it forced him to run a red light. He then realized that the dashboard already caught fire. Thankfully, Heiney managed to escape the situation unscathed.
What made Heiney’s case worse is that Chrysler called the lad up and offered him a generous amount of money to not speak his case publicly. Obviously, Chrysler is trying to hide something from the masses.
Heiney’s case was only the tip of the iceberg. There are many others over the last couple of years that suffered from something similar with the Wranglers. At the moment, the case is being investigated by NHTSA and the organization claims that they are prepared to force actions whenever necessary.
With the media covering every bit of Heiney’s case, it will surely damage both Chrysler and Jeep’s reputation in the local automotive market.
