2015 Dodge Hellcat Challenger Review: It’s Not So Bad

Yes, the all-new Dodge Challenger Hellcat is the cheapest muscle car around but it is wrong to think of it as something unworthy. Last week, we hopped into the car and started our journey from the city of Boston to Washington D.C.

Unlike our last road trip in the Ford Mustang GT, we were impressed by the generous space offered inside the Challenger’s cabin. Of course, driving the latter is not as easy as driving the former. The Challenger operates on a traditional manual gearbox that is super responsive and it always felt ready to do some sprinting.

That is something we wish to avoid as there are many highway patrol cars that were spotted throughout the roadway. As such, we stuck to cruising at the 75mph range. This also helps return an average fuel consumption rating of 21mpg.

Comparing the Dodge Hellcat Challenger with the Ford Mustang GT, we actually liked the transmission on the Challenger more. The car simply never misses a gear, which we commonly experienced on the Mustang GT. Furthermore, we find the reverse gear positioned in the upper right particularly helpful in not making a mistake.

In addition to that, the Challenger has a thicker steering wheel which works well with the overall large size. Also, the car is offered with touring seats that are more comfortable than the Recaro seats on the Mustang GT. While the latter might be sportier, the former gives off a more luxurious feel which further promotes comfort.

All in all, we have to say that driving the Dodge Hellcat Challenger is an overall pleasant experience. For what it is worth, the car is truly amazing and better than most muscle cars in the market today.
