Toyota has updated the Prius with an all-new model earlier this year and it comes with tons of upgrades from its predecessor. The hybrid now comes with a bigger battery pack that enables the vehicle to travel 15 miles more on the electric motor.
Furthermore, the Prius now have a bigger family as Toyota made more variants out of it. The latest addition is the Prius+ which is the 7-seater model of the vehicle. The latter arrived with a higher roofline and smaller batteries to free up space in the third row of seats.
Like the previous Prius, the new variant drives similarly as it offers a dynamic feel when on the road. We tested the Prius which runs on the 1.8L petrol engine that is paired to an electric motor and were satisfied with the offering.
In figures, the car generates 98hp and 104lb-fts of torque while returning 134mpg. Obviously, this is a massive improvement from its predecessor. Performance-wise, the Prius sprints from 0-62mph in 13.10 seconds and also has a top speed of 111mph.
It is important to note that the entry level model isn’t worth the purchase. We recommend getting at least the T4 model as it comes equipped with extras such as cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity.
On the other hand, the Toyota Prius isn’t cheap to own. The ones we tested retails at £33,395, which makes it more ideal to get the Volkswagen Golf GTi. Then again, the latter won’t be able to offer the same fuel economy.
