Earlier, this year, Mazda launched the all-new CX-5 and the SUV simply exhibits class. The CX-5 became a global hit instantaneously since it is built to appeal the general market.
At a glance, the CX-5 arrived with a bold look as its muscles bloat the basic measurement of the vehicle. There are some subtle character lines here and there but they are not too visible. Thus, the CX-5 lets out a clean cut look and can be said to be the gentleman in the automotive industry. Mazda calls it the new Kodo design language and it will be utilized on other future Mazda vehicles as well.
The other aspect of the CX-5 that is different from normal vehicles is the powertrain resting under its hood. Mazda has developed a new technology, called SkyActiv, and has offered it to the SUV. As such, the CX-5 comes with two engine options and they are the 163hp, 2L petrol and the 2.2L diesel that generates either 148hp or 173hp.
While the petrol and diesel mills might be different, both motors are still running on a weird 14:1 compression ratio. This is far too high for a petrol engine and at the same time, too low for a diesel engine.
However, Mazda explained that the high compression ensures more torque and better fuel optimization for the petrol mill. For the diesel mill, it helps with producing cleaner combustion, thus reducing mechanical loads and the weight of the engine.
The real celebrity here is the diesel model. It is amazing how the CX-5 can run so smoothly and quietly when drinking up diesel. Furthermore, we managed to go beyond the 5,000rpm mark with ease on the diesel-powered CX-5. The icing on the cake is with the fuel consumption rate of 61.mpg. This makes the CX-5 the most fuel efficient SUV in history.
The Mazda CX-5 is truly a wonder. It is light, affordable, practical, reliable and powerful at the same time. The fact that it comes with 3-rows of seats means that it is the perfect family car as well.
